My copy of BTO News arrived in the post today and it contained sobering results from the 2010 Nest Record Scheme analysis.
Nationally Barn Owls suffered a -10.8% decline in brood size with the mean falling to the lowest levels for a decade. This picture was reflected in our own local experience.
The owls have also been hit hard by the extreme 2010/2011 winter and nationally there have been numerous reports of dead birds being found.
Let's hope for better news once the 2011 breeding season gets underway.
